Dr. David A. Swearingen, O.D.

Dr. David Swearingen received his optometry degree from Southern California College of Optometry in 2000. The National Board of Optometry certified him in Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease in 2000. His undergraduate degree, Physical Education/Pre-Physical Therapy, was received from Point Loma Nazarene University in 1993.

Dr. Swearingen established Spectrum Eyecare Optometry, Inc. in 2006. His professional affiliations include the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists, the National Glaucoma Society, and the San Gabriel Optometric Society. He is currently board-eligible as a Diplomat of the American Board of Optometry.

Three children have blessed his life: Ashley, Cade, and Dawson. He has been married to their mother Amy for 20 years. He enjoys baseball, wakeboarding, jet skiing, and golf.


Dr. Julie Lam, O.D.

Dr. Julie Lam is a Southern California native, born and raised in Orange County. She was fascinated with eyes at an early age, which cultivated her desire to pursue a career in optometry. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Art History with a minor in Biological Sciences at the University of California Irvine, and received her doctorate from the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University. Her clinical training took place at the University Eye Center at Los Angeles, the VA Southern Nevada Hospital, and Hoopes Vision in Salt Lake City. As a licensed optometrist, Dr. Lam is certified to treat and manage glaucoma as well as ocular disease.

Dr. Lam cherishes her career as it allows her to build relationships with her patients. Along with working at Spectrum Eyecare, she performs eye exams at skilled nursing homes and rehabilitation centers across Southern California.

Outside of the office, Dr. Lam enjoys being in the kitchen, going to sporting events, yoga, burning calories at Orangetheory, and spending time with her husband and family.


Dr. Alyssa Valenzuela, O.D.

Dr. Alyssa Valenzuela graduated from Northern Arizona University with a major in Microbiology and a minor in chemistry. She received her doctorate from the Illinois College of Optometry. Her clinical training includes rotations at Daniel and Davis Eye care, Hugo V. Mendoza Soldier Care Center, the Illinois Eye Institute, and Jesse Brown VA of Chicago. She is residency trained in pediatric optometry and vision therapy. Dr. Valenzuela is passionate about primary eye care, pediatrics, and ocular disease. She aims to make a difference in the world two eyes at a time.

Outside of the office, Dr. Valenzuela enjoys yoga, riding bikes, exploring National Parks, and spending quality time with her husband, family, and golden retriever.


Shannon, Practice Manager

Shannon brings over 20 years of experience in various areas of the optical world to the office. Her vast knowledge allows patients to feel very secure in knowing that they are getting the best service available. She knows style and fashion and can help you find the right product while keeping within your style. Or if you’ve been thinking about LASIK or refractive surgery, she can answer all your questions and set you up with a free consultation if you would like.

She enjoys dancing, cooking, and relaxing at the beach with her family.


April, Assistant Manager

April brings 18 years of invaluable optical experience to our Spectrum Eyecare Optometry family. Her vast knowledge of optical lenses, and premium products are a wonderful asset to all of our patients. April also assists our doctors in performing technical procedures during your exam. Her eagerness to continue learning helps keep our team moving towards the future of eyecare. She is always happy to help make each and every one of our patients have the best experience possible.


Meagan, Lead Optical Coordinator

Meagan brings 17 years of excellence in optical experience to each person in the Spectrum Eyecare Optometry patient family. Her outgoing personality, enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge are an asset for our team and your care here! She has a passion for helping children with visual functional challenges using Vision Therapy treatment, and enjoys helping patients choose the most attractive and stylish frames. Meagan never forgets a name or a face, so she will always make you feel like you’re a part of our family.


Sarah, Patient Care Coordinator

Sarah is newer to the optometry world and is enjoying every opportunity to learn daily. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by her infectious smile and she will ensure every patient feels comfortable and prepared for their appointment, providing both hospitality and any information needed. You can guarantee you will receive not only the best greeting but the greatest service from Sarah with each visit to our office.
